Benjamin Sesko's market value rockets amid Arsenal transfer condition and RB Leipzig guarantee

Send Push

Arsenal have been given a wake-up call in the race to sign Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium for a while now as Andrea Berta weighs up his options on the market.

Sesko, whose contract at the Red Bull Arena expires in June 2029, featured 33 times in the Bundesliga last season, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists. Despite his best efforts, the German outfit failed to qualify for Europe, finishing seventh with just 51 points.

football.london understands that Arsenal remain interested in signing the Slovenia international, even if his stock has fallen a little after a disappointing campaign. The Gunners wanted to secure Sesko's signature last year, but talks never reached an advanced stage.

He wanted to resolve the matter before Euro 2024, but the north Londoners couldn't commit to a deal with Eddie Nketiah still at the club. By the time the Hale End graduate eventually left, Sesko had already penned a contract extension with Leipzig.

Despite missing out, football.london understands that Arsenal continued to monitor the 22-year-old's progress. As it stands, it remains to be seen whether or not the Gunners will push to finally sign Sesko, with Viktor Gyokeres also said to be on Mikel Arteta's shortlist.

That said, Arsenal could be inclined to wrap up a deal sooner rather than later as the Slovenian's market value climbs to new heights. At the start of June, the CIES Football Observatory priced Sesko between €92.8m and €113.5m (£80m and £98m).

Despite not having featured since, his valuation has soared; the striker is now priced between €94m and €122m (£81.1m and £105.2m). If Sesko's market value continues to grow, the Gunners could end up paying far more than they initially anticipated.

Last month, the forward's agent insisted that Leipzig aren't under pressure to sell this summer. Speaking to GiveMeSport last month, Elivis Basanovic said: "Even if there may be - or will be - a strong desire of the player to move to a certain club, we will never force or blackmail RB Leipzig.

"I believe this is not the right way, because the way you actually exit from the club shows your values. Values that you are bringing into a new club.

"I can understand in very big transfers, there are a lot of different interests but no matter what, I believe a football world should be more respect. So that's why we do things in the right way or we don't do them.

"It's very simple, even maybe in the media it looks very complicated," added Basanovic, who later outlined a key condition to a potential exit. "His numbers at his age compared to some strikers with already great careers at his age are confirming my words.

"He will move from RB Leipzig only when we recognise a special club, a special project with a special coach."
