Good news for young people aspiring to become teachers. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced the date for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET 2026). Candidates wishing to appear for this exam will soon be able to apply by visiting the CBSE website, ctet.nic.in. This exam is the most important exam determining eligibility for teacher recruitment across the country.
According to the CBSE notification, the CTET 2026 exam will be held on February 8, 2026 (Saturday). The exam will be held in 132 cities across the country. This year, the CBSE is conducting the 21st edition of the CTET, which will include both Paper 1 and Paper 2. The exam will be conducted in 20 languages to allow candidates from different states to participate.
The CBSE will soon release detailed information regarding the exam, such as the syllabus, eligibility criteria, exam fee, language options, and list of exam centers, on its website. Candidates are therefore advised to regularly visit the website.
Eligibility to Apply
The CTET exam is conducted at two levels—Paper 1 (Primary Teacher) and Paper 2 (Upper Primary Teacher). Candidates who have completed or are in the final year of a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) are eligible for Paper 1. Some B.Ed. holders are also eligible, as per CBSE regulations. For Paper 2, candidates must have a two-year B.Ed. degree, or a four-year integrated B.Ed./B.Sc. B.Ed./B.A. B.Ed. degree.

Although CBSE has not announced the fees for this year, as in previous years, it is estimated that the fee for General and OBC candidates will be approximately 1000 rupees for one paper and 1200 rupees for both papers. For SC, ST, and differently-abled candidates, this fee will be half, i.e., approximately 500 to 600 rupees.
