In a major update regarding Aadhaar regulations, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is planning to impose strict restrictions on frequently changing date of birth and biometric details such as fingerprints, in a move to curb misuse and fraud.
✅ No More Frequent Date of Birth ChangesUIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar stated that individuals will no longer be able to update their Aadhaar date of birth repeatedly. To make any changes to the birthdate in Aadhaar, the user must first get it corrected in their original birth certificate. Only the state-verified certificate will be accepted – other certificates will not be recognized.
🔐 Biometric & Fingerprint Update LimitsThe UIDAI is also considering limiting the number of times fingerprints can be updated. While senior citizens may need such updates due to aging skin, the UIDAI sees no valid reason for frequent fingerprint changes among the youth.
📱 Fully Online ProcessGoing forward, the Aadhaar update process will become fully digital. All documents submitted will need to be digitally verifiable directly through government databases. The UIDAI will also integrate Aadhaar verification with databases like:
-
PAN card
-
CBSE marksheets
-
MGNREGA records
To enhance security, UIDAI is employing AI and ML algorithms to detect fake fingerprints and photographs. These technologies will be used for:
-
Matching facial photos with immigration records
-
Estimating age using AI-enabled cameras
-
Verifying fingerprint authenticity
CEO Kumar highlighted how people manipulate their Aadhaar age for personal benefit – such as:
-
Reducing age to qualify for sports teams
-
Increasing age to qualify for jobs
These fraudulent practices, he said, will now be actively blocked.
🔍 Age Verification via AIAI-based systems are being tested to estimate the age of individuals through photos, especially for child Aadhaar cards where biometric data is not mandatory.
💡 What This Means for You-
You can’t change your date of birth multiple times.
-
Fingerprint updates will be limited, especially for younger users.
-
All Aadhaar updates must be made using official government-verified documents.
-
AI and tech tools will be used to verify identity and stop fraud.
These changes are part of UIDAI’s broader push to enhance Aadhaar’s security and reduce identity fraud. Additional security upgrades to the Aadhaar system are expected to be announced soon.
