WhatsApp is constantly working on new features to improve the user experience. It has been reported that the company is now testing a new feature, through which users will be able to do real-time voice chat with Meta AI chatbot. This feature is currently available on the WhatsApp Android beta version 2.25.21.21, and more beta testers may get it in the coming weeks.
The new feature aims to allow users to interact with Meta AI via voice commands. It comes with a dedicated interface that looks just like a phone call. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the chatbot window will have a waveform icon, tapping which will start the voice chat. This icon can be accessed from WhatsApp's Chats tab.
Users will also have an automatic voice session option, which can be turned on or off by going to Meta AI Voice Preferences. By default, this option will be off so that users have full control over when and how they voice chat with Meta AI.
Voice chat can also be started from the Calls tab.
To make the interaction easier, WhatsApp has also integrated this feature in the Calls tab. That is, if the user taps on the Meta AI contact from the Calls tab, the session will start immediately. No extra confirmation will be required for this. This design is for those users who want hands-free and fast interaction.
A collapse icon is also provided in this feature, through which the user can make the voice session work in the background. This will be useful when you are using another app. It will work exactly like a normal WhatsApp call.
Users will be able to have complete control over their privacy and session flow. He can mute the microphone, close the session with the 'X' button, or switch to text chat at any time.
WhatsApp has also kept privacy in mind in this feature. Android's system-level privacy indicator (green dot in the status bar) will tell the user when the microphone is active, so that the user knows when Meta AI is listening.
When will this feature come?
At present, WhatsApp has not announced the official launch date of this feature. This feature is in the beta testing stage and is currently available only to limited users. It is expected that its stable version will also come soon.
