Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said that India’s highways will match the quality of American roads within the next two years, as the government accelerates infrastructure development in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a USD 5-trillion economy.
Speaking at a public event in Ranchi, Gadkari emphasised the role of world-class infrastructure in economic growth and job creation. “In the next two years, Indian highways will be at par with America’s highways in terms of quality,” he said.
He also announced that the government is working to reduce logistics costs to 9% of GDP by December 2025, down from the current 14%. “Lower logistics costs will make Indian goods more competitive, improve efficiency, and give a major boost to the economy,” the minister added.
