Kolkata: Trinamool Congress heavyweight leader from Birbhum Anubrata Mondal skipped police summons on Monday, three days consecutively, after Birbhum police summoned him in connection with his viral purported audio, using abusive language against a police official.
Mondal did not appear before the Birbhum police despite repeated summons. However, a medical certificate was submitted on his behalf, people in the know said.
A visiting professor and doctor from Shantiniketan Medical College, a private medical college from Birbhum district, has reportedly given a medical certificate to Mondal advising five days of bed rest, sources said. The officials from Shantiniketan Medical College have submitted the medical documents to SDPOs office today morning.
An FIR has been lodged against Mondal on Friday, following abusive threats made by Mondal to a police official over phone, allegedly threatening to rape his mother and wife.
A major controversy had erupted over a purported audio, veracity of which has not been verified by ET, came to the forefront, and it was learnt Mondal was threatening a police official and abusing his family member. Following this, Birbhum Police lodged an FIR against Mondal and curtailed the security arrangements provided by the state government.
“We have lodged an FIR against Anubrata Mondal and legal action will be taken against him. IC Liton Das has complained a few days back about the matter,” Birbhum Super Amandeep had said on Friday.
Following this, a notice has been served to Mondal, asking him to appear physically before police, after lodging an FIR against him. However, Mondal did not appear before police till Monday.
Mondal had apologized after the party's direction. “I take heavy doses of medicines at night. It may be under the influence of those medicines, I have spoken like that,” Mondal said.
Mondal, whose proximity with “Didi” is well known in political circles, seems to be falling apart recently when the election responsibilities have been given to a Committee and he was removed from the post of Birbhum District President. During Mondal’s jail days, Banerjee did not remove him. Banerjee used to call Mondal as “Keshto”, by his pet name.
Responding to the incident, CPI-M Rajya Sabha MP and advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said today, “Our police minister ( Mamata Banerjee) is completely silent. Our Police Minister's silence is supported by her. Anubrata Mondal has given one medical certificate today and he will give another tomorrow. It is all part of a drama and no action is taken against miscreants of Trinamool Congress.
BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar said, “Earlier when CBI and ED were summoned, Anubrata Mondal fell ill. Now, he is falling ill when state police are summoning him.”
