Send Push

In a surprising case from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, a mother-in-law, Rajwanti Devi, filed an FIR accusing her son-in-law Rajendra Kumar and his family of torturing and murdering her daughter Ruchi over dowry issues and disposing of her body. The complaint alleged severe dowry harassment, including physical abuse, denial of food and clothing, and refusal to allow Ruchi to visit her dying father.

However, a police investigation revealed that Ruchi was alive and living in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, after eloping with another man. She informed police that her marriage to Rajendra was forced against her will and that she had loved someone else since school days. Acting on a tip, police recovered her and sent her for a medical examination.

The allegations against the in-laws, including husband Rajendra, mother-in-law Kamli Devi, father-in-law Phoolchand, and others, were dropped, bringing relief to the accused family. The police have stated that they are continuing investigations into the matter to determine if a false case was filed and will take necessary actions accordingly.

This case highlights issues around forced marriage, dowry harassment accusations, and the complexities police face in verifying such claims.
