India has officially welcomed the appointment of Sushila Karki as Nepal’s interim Prime Minister, following a period of violent anti-corruption protests and political turmoil in the Himalayan nation. After widespread demonstrations—mainly led by the youth and catalyzed by frustration over a social media ban and escalating corruption—Nepal’s former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned, and Sushila Karki was appointed as the country’s first woman Prime Minister.
Karki, a former chief justice renowned for her integrity, took the oath of office in a formal ceremony administered by President Ram Chandra Paudel. India, recognizing the historic significance of her appointment and ongoing challenges in Nepal, congratulated Karki and expressed hope for greater peace and stability between the two countries.
