If homemade chocolate brownies are baked well, they can be the ultimate sweet treat. One ingredient in particular can help transform them by enhancing the rich chocolate notes.
Most typical brownie recipes include staple ingredients such as chocolate, butter, sugar, eggs, baking powder and vanilla extract. However, bakers have recommended an extra ingredient which can be simply added to the mixture for a "richer and more intense" flavour.
BWOWNIES, a brownie business that started from a home kitchen, shared the secret tip on Instagram. The business, which is known for its fudgy and high-quality sweet treats, has around 58,000 followers.
They recommend adding coffee to chocolate brownies for an amplified flavour. They said it's like "turning the volume up on chocolate".
BWOWNIES said on Instagram, "Coffee balances the sweetness with a touch of bitterness, which boosts the cocoa notes and makes every bite richer and more intense. It is basically like turning the volume up on chocolate."
They added: "It is one of my favourite creations yet and one of the best things about running a small business is being able to move quickly, experiment and make flavours I actually want to eat...then just hope you do too."
The post has attracted a number of comments with bakers agreeing that coffee can transform brownies. One said: "I recently added coffee to my brownies too. Game changer!"
A second put: "I've added liquid coffee and even an espresso but never thought to add ground Coffee! Genius! Will definitely try a gluten free version for my mini business."
While some recipes recommend pouring liquid coffee into the brownie batter, others say bakers should use instant coffee or espresson powder. This helps give more control over the moisture content of the batter.
To make 16 brownies, it is recommended to use two tablespoons of instant coffee or espresso powder. You can add more or less dependent on taste.
