Xavi Simons wants to join a Premier League club and he has reportedly recruited the services of a top agent to make it happen. High-level intermediary Ali Barat has ties to a number of Chelsea players, and the Blues are expected to be approached with the opportunity to add Simons to their ranks.
The 22-year-old, who can play in attacking midfield or on the wing, has scored 21 goals in 76 games for current club RB Leipzig. And he tore up the Dutch Eredivisie the season before landing in Germany, racking up 22 goals across all competitions for PSV Eindhoven.
With his stock rising all the time, Bild have reported that Simons now wants to take the next step by joining a club in the Premier League. It is not guaranteed that the Dutchman will leave Leipzig, but the club's bargaining position has been weakened after missing out on all forms of European football for the upcoming season.
Simons has already moved between Paris Saint-Germain, PSV and RB Leipzig in his young career but he has now drafted in the help of Barat, who works for top agency Epic Sports.
The company represents Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson, they have close ties to Moises Caicedo, and they have worked on deals involving ex-Chelsea players Ian Maatsen, Cesare Casadei and Conor Gallagher.
Given those connections, and Barat's experience of dealing with senior figures at Stamford Bridge, the report states that Chelsea are set to be approached as Simons looks for a potential landing spot in England.
Not many Premier League sides would have the cash to sign him or the space to fit him into their squad. Liverpool are flush with attacking options, and will be even more so if they complete the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
Manchester United will have spent heavily on two attacking players this summer when Bryan Mbeumo joins Matheus Cunha at Old Trafford. And Arsenal are set to bring in Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres to boost their own forward ranks.
Chelsea have a talented stable of attacking midfielders and wingers but that has not previously stopped them from fleshing out areas of the squad that already appeared to be full. And the chance to sign a player of Simons' promise may prove too tempting for club bosses to miss out on.
