Water bottle scam: Viral reel warns users about tampered and drugged water; Know the precautions

Send Push
We often come across shocking reports of new scams that are intended to trick and harm innocent people. Some use the medium of phone calls, others happen online, but the scariest ones are those that target us in everyday public places without us even realising that we might be prone to it. Some scams don’t just rob you of money, but put your safety and life at serious risk, and it is quite necessary to stay alert about these.

Whether you’re commuting to work, waiting at a bus stop, catching a train, or simply grabbing a bottle of water at the airport, there’s always a need to be cautious as scammers are getting smarter and more ruthless day by day, and finding new ways to trap people in situations that seem completely normal on the surface.

One such alarming scam is now going viral on social media, and warnings are spreading rapidly to help people stay alert. It's about something as simple and as unsuspecting as a water bottle.

According to a viral reel by content creator Rajiv Makhani, which was shared on Instagram, “A brand new, super dangerous scam is going around where water bottles are being injected and laced with dangerous drugs!”

A simple-looking water bottle is reportedly being tampered with and used to drug unsuspecting victims. The post further warns, “You won’t even know it, but a sip from that bottle will make you unconscious and vulnerable to kidnapping or worse.”

The scam is said to be happening at commonly visited places, and according to the video post, “It’s happening everywhere from Metro Stations, bus stops to Airports!”

The reel explains how scammers are injecting harmful substances using extremely thin needles into sealed water bottles and then placing or handing them to potential victims. These bottles look untouched and clean from the outside, but once consumed, the effect can be instant, leaving the person unconscious and highly vulnerable.

The video urges people to stay alert and take immediate action if they come across any suspicious-looking bottles. It also emphasises the importance of not accepting water bottles from strangers or drinking from any source you didn’t purchase or open yourself.

The video also tells the users to “Share this with everyone you know as hundreds of cases are being reported every day.”

While exact details and verification from authorities are still pending, this viral alert is a strong reminder that caution in public spaces is more crucial than ever.
