While Instagram and TikTok have their own leagues, YouTube content creators are one of the most followed people on social media platforms, so much so that people are waiting to see their videos, no matter how long. In the fast-paced digital space, that means a lot. So when fans hear that one of their favourite and most popular YouTubers has announced retirement, it is bound to make headlines.
Luke Nichols , creator of the popular YouTube channel Outdoor Boys has decided to step away from the world of content creation after a decade of a career in the field. The YouTuber who is followed by fans for his wilderness and family adventure videos, began the channel in May 2015 and over the years, he garnered over 15.1 million subscribers and more than 2 billion views.
Who is Luke Nichols?
Nichols was born in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1978 and developed a deep love and adoration for the outdoors during his childhood in the wild Alaskan outdoors. The practising lawyer later decided to share this love with others in the form of his YouTube channel, Outdoor Boys, where he posted family-centric videos with his wife, Rebecca Nichols and their three sons.
In 2013, he began his first YouTube channel "Catfish and Carp" where he shared videos on fishing tips and tutorials. He got his first silver button between a few years of starting the channel.
In 2017, he started "Outdoor Boys" so that he could share videos on his family adventures, survival challenges and creative projects that engaged larger audiences.
Luke Nichols announces retirement
On May 17, the creator, who is also a practising criminal defense attorney, posted a video on his channel titled "Goodbye". In the video, Nichols cited his reasons for leaving social media life as the increasing time and energy the work takes and also the increasing attention he and his family have been receiving, which has been hampering their privacy. He shared how his YouTube videos were picked by people and shared on other platforms, which has gained him so many views that he and his family are recognised in public with people approaching to get a picture or have a conversation with him. Thus, he emphasised pausing things at this stage, before the situation became unmanageable.
What will Luke Nichols do now?
Along with spending time with his wife and kids, he aims to support and groom his three sons, who all want to become YouTubers. He specifically wants to focus on helping his oldest son, Tom, grow his YouTube channel, Outdoor Tom , and prepare him for adulthood.
He shared that he had some half-finished videos like some homestead projects, travel adventures and some extreme camping trips he had been planning for the past six months, whose videos he will be sharing together at the end of the year. For the foreseeable future, the goodbye video is the Outdoor Boys' last video on the channel.
