He continues that they bowled well in the last couple of overs. He reckons that they gave 20-25 runs extra, which turned out costly for them while they were chasing. He ends up saying that he is happy for the youngsters, and he hopes they play well in the future as well.
Parvez Hossain Emon is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning ton. Parvez says that it's a special knock for him as it was his maiden T20I century. He adds that he was assessing the wicket and applied his process. He concludes that he will try his best in the next game as well.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Bangladesh were put into bat by Muhammad Waseem on a pitch where 150 looked a decent score. However, that was not the case as one player single-handedly took Bangladesh to a very formidable total. Parvez Hossain Emon struck a sublime century off just 54 balls when he got out, as without much contribution from the others, the visitors still managed to get 191 runs. For United Arab Emirates, Muhammad Jawadullah was the standout as he got a four-fer, but it wasn't enough as the other let things slip.
United Arab Emirates will be thinking about what could have been and it is the inexperience of the middle order that has proved to be the difference. Skipper, Muhammad Waseem led from the front and once a couple of wickets fell, he and the ODI skipper, Rahul Chopra added on a game-changing partnership. However, post the drinks break, Waseem looked lethargic and gave away his wicket. This triggered a collapse as Chopra too fell. Asif Khan did lead a fightback and was looking in pristine form but lost too many wickets around him before getting out himself. In the end, UAE came up 27 runs short, a bigger margin of defeat than it should have been.
Having put on 191 big runs, Bangladesh must have thought that the job was already half done. However, even after picking up a couple of wickets in the first 5 overs, they weren't able to stop the flow of runs. It was in the second half of the chase, especially in the death overs, when they started to pick up wickets in a heap. The likes of Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman remained economical whilst picking up a couple of wickets each as Hasan Mahmud got three wickets. Tanvir Islam also did well but Mahedi Hasan proved to be very expensive, and picked up a couple of wickets in the final over by when the game was over. Overall, a good fightback from the bowling team.
A maiden T20I victory in Sharjah for Bangladesh! Bangladesh had to dig in deep, and that's exactly what they did! Crucial wickets at crucial stages and they held the catches that mattered the most, which gave them the win and the unassailable 1-0 lead in the series.
